Game simulation predicts Germany will claim World Cup

With the World Cup kicking off next Thursday, hundreds of millions of people around the planet will be waiting to see who contends, who lifts up the trophy and who goes home in shame. And according to EA Sports, it will be Germany that makes history.

EA Sports used their “2014 FIFA World Cup” game to simulate the entire tournament. According to the gaming engine, Germany will be the first European nation to win a World Cup held in the continent of South America.

In 2010, EA Sports accurately picked Spain to win the World Cup. This time, the game predicted Germany will beat host Brazil 2-1 in extra time on July 13, with veteran striker Miroslav Klose scoring the match winner.

Defending champ Spain was tabbed to finished third, beating Portugal 3-1.

Young Brazilian star Neymar Jr. was predicted to score a tournament-high six goals, win the Golden Boot and also earn the Golden Ball award. Among the game’s other predictions: The United States and Italy getting knocked out in the group stage, Nigeria reaching the quarterfinals before falling to Portugal and Mexico being the only CONCACAF team in the round of 16.
