Yankees to pick up Granderson’s $15M option

As expected, the Yankees will pick up Curtis Granderson’s option for the 2013 season.

The Post learned on Friday that the team will exercise the star centerfielder’s $15M option, but are currently not exploring a long-term extension for Granderson, who can become a free-agent following the 2014 season.

Granderson’s option was initially for $13M but increased to $15M after he finished fourth in the MVP voting for the 2011 season.

Since arriving prior to the 2010 season, Granderson has hit 108 home runs and driven in 292 runs for the Yankees, including back-to-back years with at least 40 home runs and 100 RBI in 2011 and 2012.

Granderson has struggled in the postseason, hitting .230 (18-for-78) with three home runs and 10 RBI in 23 games for the Yankees. Granderson’s troubling postseason performance was highlighted after the 31-year-old went 3-for-30 with 16 strikeouts in the Yankees’ two playoff series this year against the Orioles and Tigers.
