Jets won’t talk about how seriously Sanchez is injured

The day after the Jets’ quarterback situation somehow became murkier, no one was saying how badly injured Mark Sanchez’s right shoulder was or how it will affect the team’s decision on who starts in two weeks against the Buccaneers.

Sanchez underwent an MRI exam Sunday, but the results are unknown. All the Jets would say yesterday was that Sanchez would not play Thursday against the Eagles and that he is day-to-day, but no one revealed the extent of the injury. He had an X-ray on Saturday night and it showed no bones were broken, according to a source.

The Jets practice Monday afternoon and it is highly unlikely that Sanchez will practice. The bigger question is will he be ready for the Sept. 8 opener with Darrelle Revis and Tampa Bay. Rookie Geno Smith could win the job by default if Sanchez can’t play.

Sanchez suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s game with the Giants when tackle Marvin Austin delivered a vicious blow to his shoulder after he completed a 23-yard pass to Mohamed Massaquoi.
