Patriots release DT Love after diabetes diagnosis

There’s not much room for loyalty in the NFL, especially in New England.

The Patriots on Wednesday released DT Kyle Love weeks after he was diagnosed with Type II diabetes, according to multiple reports out of Boston. Love had started 24 games – and played in all 32 – the past two seasons.

“I was assured this was pure and simple a medical decision,” agent Richard Kopelman told the Boston Herald. “I asked, ‘Was there something else at play here?’ And I was told no, it’s 100 percent a medical decision, and that’s all there is to it.”

Love did not last long on the open market as the Jaguars claimed the run-stuffer off waivers, according to ESPN.com.

Love had lost some weight in recent weeks, which caused concern and led to the diagnosis. He had gained back some of the weight, but the affliction forced him to miss the start of the Patriots’ offseason workouts.

“Kyle is going to be at 100 percent within a matter of weeks,” Kopelman told the Globe. “Barring something out of the ordinary, he should be ready to go for training camp, and he’ll continue to be successful.”
