TOP 9

Jones, Davis and Wieters to face Sabathia in the ninth. Yankees lead 3-1. The Orioles’ season is on the line. CC is staying in to finish the job.

Jones flies out to left. He was absolutely abysmal in this series.

CC is at 113 pitches.

Davis with two lazy swings. Quickly 0-2. CC blows him away with a high fastball.

Orioles down to their final out. Wieters up.

Wieters grounds back to Sabathia, who throws him out at first.

That’s it! The Yankees survive a wild series and advance to the ALCS against the Tigers tomorrow night.

We’ll see you then.

BOTTOM 8

Pedro Strop in for the Orioles.

Jeter grounds to first and Reynolds tosss to Strop running toward the bag. One down.

Ichiro with a rare walk.

Strop will come out. The Orioles go to Brian Matusz to pitch to Cano.

Good call. Matusz induces Cano to ground into a 4-6-3 double play on one pitch. That was quick. Still no sign of Robbie in this series.

TOP 8

Sabathia still in and Wieters lines a single to left against him to start the eighth.

Base runners have been so hard to come by. The Orioles need multiple now.

There’s another. Machado walks and Joe Girardi needs to think about how long CC is going to remain in this game.

CC gets Reynolds swinging. Huge out against a guy who has killed the Yankees.

Ford singles to left, driving in Wieters. 3-1 now. That was beyond a diving Jeter. Still only one out.

Andino taps it back to the mound. CC has nowhere to go with it. He throws to second, but Ford is already there. Everyone is safe. Yikes. Bases loaded with the top of the order coming up.

Sabathia bears down and gets McLouth swinging on a slider. Huge out.

CC is at 107 pitches.

Hardy a slow hopper to Jeter, who just gets Hardy at first. Inning over. CC gets out of the jam and that will probably be it for him.

BOTTOM 7

Patton strikes out Swisher looking.

There it is. Granderson homers. 3-0 Yankees.

Martin grounds out to third. Two down.

Chavez strikes out swinging.

Can the Orioles come back from a three-run deficit in this series, which has been marked by a lack of offense?

TOP 7

Hardy grounds out to second. Sabathia still cruising and now he actually has a small cushion to work with.

Jones strikes out swinging.

Davis flies out to center. Easy inning for Sabathia.

BOTTOM 6

Chavez strikes out looking.

Jeter walks and Ichiro drives him in with a double. 2-0 Yankees. Jeter scores all the way from first on his bad foot. Tough.

Hammel freezes Cano with a pitch that looked to be a little high. Two down with Ichiro on second.

Showalter out to give Hammel the hook. Troy Patton is coming in to face Ibanez, setting up lefty vs. lefty.

Ibanez strikes out swinging. Another solid job by the Orioles bullpen.

TOP 6

Ford grounds out to second.

Andino flies out to right. Two down. CC cruising.

McLouth hammers one down the line to right field into the seats and it’s called foul. Buck Showalter is out on the field to argue.

The replay shows the ball hit the foul pole, but umpires are sticking that it’s foul. Wow. The Orioles are getting robbed here.

And McLouth strikes out. Unbelievable.

BOTTOM 5

Teixeira ends the perfect game bid with a leadoff single.

Teixeira gets a great jump and steals second. Wow. Risky move there by the Yankees, but it pays off.

Ibanez drives in Tex from second with a grounder past Andino and up the middle. He does it again. 1-0 Yankees.

Just in case you thought there might be some kind of offensive outburst, Swisher grounds into a 6-4-3 double play.

Granderson singles to center. Finally. The Yankees look to be getting some good swings on Hammel now.

Granderson steals second. Good for the Yankees to force the issue here. They needed some kind of spark and it’s worked out so far.

Martin flies out to center, leaving Granderson stranded.

TOP 5

Wieters walks and the Orioles have their second base runner.

Machado bloops it to short center, but Cano tracks it down behind second base. Wieters scampers back to first. One out.

Reynolds grounds it up the middle, Cano scoops it, steps on second and throws to first for a double play. This game is zipping along. That means they’ll try for 17 innings tonight.

BOTTOM 4

Jeter strikes out for the second time. Apparently even The Captain can’t avoid being plagued by this offensive ineptitude.

Ichiro grounds out to second for the second time and Cano strikes out looking. Hammel is perfect through four innings. Wow.

TOP 4

McLouth lines a CC pitch to left field for the game’s first hit. Yes, we’re in the fourth inning.

Hardy flies out to right field.

Jones actually puts a decent swing on the ball, but flies out to center field. McLouth is still at first and there are two down.

McLouth steals second and we have our first runner in scoring position of the game.

Davis gives it a nice ride to center field, but Granderson tracks it down. A few good swings against CC in that inning. In this series, that’s the only way to mark offensive success.

BOTTOM 3

Curtis Granderson flies out to right to start the inning. He’s done less than nothing in this series offensively.

Martin flies out to center. It’s almost silly how bad the offense has been in this series. Now of course this game will be 11-8.

Eric Chavez flies out to center. He actually made Adam Jones move on that one, which is an improvement over his peers.

TOP 3

CC strikes out Mark Reynolds.

Lew Ford, late of the Long Island Ducks, flies out to right.

Robert Andino flies out to right and Sabathia is perfect through three.

BOTTOM 2

Mark Teixeira grounds out to third base.

Here comes Raul Ibanez, your Game 3 savior. He lines out to center. Not too dramatic this time.

Nick Swisher strikes out swinging. Hammel, like CC, looking good early.

TOP 2

Chris Davis it in front of the plate, Russell Martin scoops the ball up and throws Davis out.

Matt Wieters is caught looking for the second out.

And Manny Machado strikes out on three straight pitches. The incredible hitting in this series continues.

BOTTOM 1

No Alex Rodriguez in the lineup for the Yankees. Jason Hammel takes the mound for the Orioles after a nice Game 1 start.

Derek Jeter thought he had a walk. Turns out, he’s struck out.

Ichiro Suzuki grounds out to second.

Cano grounds out weakly to first. Where are all the Yankees fans clamoring for Cano to be dropped down in the lineup? He’s done nothing in this series.

TOP 1

The Yankees have to feel confident coming into this game with CC Sabathia on the mound.

He looks good in the first inning.

Nate McLouth lines out to center, JJ Hardy flies to right and Adam Jones strikes out swinging.
