WATCH: Oregon State coach tells 7-footers to ‘gimme a call’ at DNC

Not even John Calipari has this kind of recruiting platform.

Oregon State men’s basketball coach Craig Robinson, the brother of First Lady Michelle Obama, spoke at Tuesday’s Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., and used the opportunity as a chance to enhance recruiting.

“Any 7-footers out there, gimme a call!” he joked.

Standing next to President Obama’s sister, Maya Soetoro-ng, he went on to praise his sister Michelle, speaking of her commitment to helping military families in their time of need.

“She’s still the kind little sister she always was — now she’s just sticking up for those who stand up for us,” said Robinson, who is entering his fifth season at Oregon State after two years at Brown. “And I’m proud of her work to give our children a healthier start in life. Let’s face it, Maya, I’m going to need the recruits!”

The crowd erupted in laughter.

Robinson’s team could use some help. Though it finished 21-15 last year and went 7-11 in the Pac-12, the Beavers lost leading scorer Jared Cunningham, who was selected 24th overall in the NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks.

Oregon State does bring in five recruits in this year’s class. At the top of the list is George forward Jamal Reid. The Beavers did recently pick up 6-foot-9 Dutch forward Olaf Schaftenaar, who will be immediately eligible.

Still, as Robinson told the crowd, there is room for a few 7-footers.
