Ojomo goes from unknown to a place on the roster

Of all the players who survived Friday’s cut-down day to stick on the Giants roster, undrafted rookie Adewale Ojomo came the furthest and stands as the greatest long-shot to make the cut.

Ojomo appeared to be just another big practice body in training camp but he made steady improvement and was at his best in the preseason games, registering a team-high four sacks.

“There is a perfect example of a young man for whom preparation meant opportunity and he succeeded,” Tom Coughlin said. “He worked and he worked and he worked and he enjoyed playing. He got confident. He sized up the opponent and he made timely, timely plays throughout the entire preseason. He played on special teams. He earned the opportunity to have his spot.”

To get down to the 53-player limit, the Giants terminated the contracts of five veterans: RB D.J. Ware, CB Dante Hughes, DT Marcus Thomas, WR Isaiah Stanback and OL Chris White. Two players – CB Terrell Thomas and DT Shaun Rogers, were put on IR and one, CB Bruce Johnson, was waived/injured because of a shoulder problem. One player, S Tyler Sash, was put on the suspended list and 13 players were waived: DE Matt Broha, TE Larry Donnell, LB Jake Muasau, LB Greg Jones, WR David Douglas, DE Craig Marshall, WR Dan DePalma, DT Dwayne Hendricks, OL Selvish Capers, CB Laron Scott, QB Ryan Perrilloux, OL Stephen Goodin and OL Matt McCants. Broha, Donnell, Scott and Marshall are expected to be signed to the practice squad.
