New Brooklyn Nets logo apparently leaked on Twitter

Is this the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets new logo?

A photo of the shielded logo — please ignore the blue tape on it — was posted on Twitter today by a man claiming to be an IT worker at the under-construction Barclays Center. It was then circulated by the blog Deadspin.

It’s an update of the team’s existing New Jersey logo – but with Brooklyn flavor. Like the current logo, the team name is above a basketball – but this time a large “B” similar to the one worn on the hats of the former, beloved Brooklyn Dodgers is in the center of the ball.

The team’s colors — currently red, silver, white and navy blue – appear to be replaced by black and white.

This shouldn’t be a surprise based on an ad campaign teasing the new logo, which the team launched this week. It offers nothing more than a black and white motif featuring a white outline of a shield, along with a #HELLO BROOKLYN Twitter hashtag.

Regarding the photo, Barclays Center/Nets CEO Brett Yormark tweeted “will not comment on what has been circulated on the internet. Our entire brand identity will be introduced by us on monday.#hellobrooklyn”

The team is expected to formally introduce the new team colors and logo Monday while also officially changing its name from New Jersey Nets to Brooklyn Nets.

Rap icon and Nets part owner Jay-Z is helping design the uniforms.
