NY Creates Holiday Craft Festival

The Holiday Crafts Festival features an array of unique, handcrafted gifts including ceramics, jewelry, apparel, plush toys, organic cosmetics, glassworks, art and home goods at affordable prices. NYHC & NHC Awards Luncheon

The New York Housing Conference (NYHC) and the National Housing Conference (NHC) host their annual awards luncheon, one of the largest gatherings of housing professionals in the nation. Manhattan Projects: The Rise aAnd Fall of Urban Renewal in Cold War New York

Urban historian Samuel Zipp sheds new light on the rise and fall of New York’s urban renewal in the decades after World War II. Focusing on four iconic “Manhattan projects” — the United Nations, Stuyvesant Town, Lincoln Center and public housing in East Harlem — Zipp unearths a host of forgotten stories and characters and discusses how urban renewal caused racial segregation and class division among city dwellers. 6:30-8 pm. Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful blocks in the East Village, East 10th Street between Avenues A and B along the north side of Tompkins Square Park retains a wealth of architectural detail that has changed little since its original construction in the mid-19th century. This presentation will look at three distinct time periods on the block–from 1860-1890, 1900-1930 and post-1930. 6:30 pm. Free.
