He used to be an assemblyman. Now he’s just an ass.

Guillermo Linares, who was defeated handily last election by Sen. Adriano Espaillat, is still brandishing his expired assemblyman’s parking placard on the dashboard of his luxury SUV.

Chucked from office since Jan. 1, Linares lost the title but carries on like he should keep the perks.

On Thursday, Linares, 62, said he was “doing an errand here” as he was confronted by a Post reporter and photographed getting behind the wheel of his daughter Mayra’s white 2003 Infiniti, which was parked smack in front of PS 98 in Washington Heights “during school hours.”

“I’m going to submit it in tomorrow,” he said. “I should have given it in when my term expired. I’m not in an official capacity to use it. I know it is wrong. I’m going to give it back. I wish I had handed it in.”

A Department of Education spokeswoman said no complaints had been filed regarding the ex-pol’s parking problem.

But a PS 98 teacher said the Infiniti with the placard is constantly blocking buses as they load students.

“He does it all the time,” she said.

The civilian Linares, who left his 72nd District seat serving Upper Manhattan to run for state Senate last September, claims he parks illegally only in the school zone on West 212th Street and Broadway — a stone’s throw from a small office he uses.

“Whenever I’m unable to find parking, I park here. I only use it here.”

Yet photographs reveal Linares’ parked Infiniti with the dubious placard (which expired Feb. 1 and wasn’t assigned to the Infiniti) occupying a city bus stop on St. Nicholas Avenue near 191st Street at about 6:45 p.m. on May 9.
