Photography and the Modern Interior

The work of designers and architects in the early to mid-20th century entered the consciousness of a wider audience through the images of important photographers like Ezra Stoller and Julius Shulman. These photographs of modern architecture and interiors made it possible for readers of design magazines to discover and to appreciate the groundbreaking work of Florence Knoll, Eero Saarinen and Philip Johnson, among others. In this conversation, Erica Stoller will talk about the emergence and development of the work of her father, Ezra, and Paul Warchol will talk about his own photographs, which depict iconic modern buildings. 6-8 pm. $25. Super Saturday @ Home

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s (OCRF) 14th Annual Super Saturday is co-hosted by Donna Karan, Kelly Ripa and Ariel Foxman of InStyle. This daylong fundraiser will include a one-of-a-kind designer garage sale, a kids’ carnival and gourmet dining. Two shoppable designer vignettes will be produced and showcase an indoor and outdoor room, which will be outfitted with select pieces donated from the Hampton Designer Showhouse designers, Traditional Home and One Kings Lane. The flea market will also include the @Home Shop — a retail hut containing a variety of home accessories. 1-6 pm. Tickets are $450 or $650 (with preview) for adults and $150 for children ages 5-16. Carroll Gardens Walking Tour

This tour covers Carroll Gardens, home to a small historic district, with brownstones set uniquely behind deep front gardens, as well as some of Brooklyn’s masterpieces of Greek Revival and Romanesque Revival architecture. Carroll Gardens also has a rich social and physical history, and a strong Italian-American presence. The tour will be led by Francis Morrone, architectural historian. 11 am – 1 pm. $15. The roundtable will feature four speakers involved in Brooklyn real estate. Marvin Schein of Salmar Properties will discuss Salmar’s plans to develop a 1.2 million square foot site on the Sunset Park waterfront. Lisa Gomez of L+M Development Partners will discuss building in Brooklyn through the downturn and include a sampling of projects from Williamsburg to Columbia Street. David Von Spreckelsen of Toll Brothers City Living Division will discuss Toll Brothers’ activities in Brooklyn, including the new condo project on Water Street in DUMBO. And Hung Luk of the Lam Group will discuss the Lam Group’s two hotel projects in Downtown Brooklyn, including the Sheraton and the recently opened Aloft. $300.
