Vermes remains KC coach: Sources

Peter Vermes will remain on as Kansas City Wizards coach, sources told The Post Monday night. Vermes, also the team’s technical director, told the team of his decision Monday and will make an official announcement at a press conference on Tuesday.

It is expected Vermes retains assistant coach Zoran Savic, according to sources.

Vermes, who on Monday was named a finalist on the 2010 National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot, took over for Curt Onolfo on an interim basis on Aug. 4. Kansas City was 2-6-3 under Vermes, a New Jersey native and one-time MetroStars midfielder.

The Wizards finished 8-13-9, missing the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2006. It was Kansas City’s lowest win total since 1999.
