The Red Bulls primarily did skill work today before some small-sided scrimmages. But now two days in, they’ve at least had a chance to get a look at newcomer Carlos Johnson, who arrived from Costa Rica Wednesday.
“Today afforded the coaching staff an opportunity to see Carlos Johnson and for him to get more familiar with the team and the players,” Juan Carlos Osorio said. “We had followed him during the UNCAF Tournament. He is an athletic player that can get up and down the right flank. He can provide good service and has good qualities on offense and defense.”
The 24-year-old Johnson is a trialist, but that should be framed with the knowledge that the club scouted him with the Costa Rican National Team, both in Florida and in the UNCAF Cup tournament. He’s a player they’ve put a lot of time into, and have been tracking for some time, so he has a serious leg up against any competition.
