GSP Makes Penn Quit

Georges St-Pierre successfully defends UFC welterweight title against BJ Penn. BJ Penn had called Georges St-Pierre a quitter during the promotion of their much-anticipated showdown in the Octagon. But it was Penn, who wound up quitting on his stool Saturday night in the Las Vegas, failing to answer the bell for the fifth round of their champion vs. champion bout at UFC 94 at the MGM Grand.

St-Pierre successfully defended his UFC welterweight championship by using his strength and ground skills to dominate Penn, the UFC lightweight champion. Penn’s attempt to be the first dual belt holder in UFC never took root. St-Pierre took control of the fight early, taking Penn to the ground and battering him with frequent fists and elbows to the head.

The fight came close to being stopped in the fourth when Penn, his arms and hands penned, took repeated blows to the head. He was saved by the bell, but his corner stopped the fight before the fifth and final round could begin.

Other winners included: Lyoto Machida, Jon Jones, Karo Parisyan, and Clay Guida.
