Red Bulls ink Macoumba Kandji

Lost in the news of the Red Bulls trading away Dave van den Bergh was their signing of Macoumba Kandji. The striker inked a contract with MLS and will be part of the Red Bulls’ roster next season.

“We liked what we saw from Mac during his time on loan with us,” sporting director Jeff Agoos said. “Mac has shown that he is capable of playing at a higher level and we look forward to his contribution in the future.”

Kandji joined on loan from the now-defunct USL side Atlanta Silverbacks back in September. The Red Bulls forked over a fee to make the move permanent. Back in August we told you Juan Carlos Osorio had targeted Kandji, Dominic Oduro and Omar Cummings as speed threats, and now he has two of them.

And remember, Kandji didn’t do much in USL in 2007, but exploded with a huge 2008 season as his second full year in the league. That bodes well for next season as he has his feet wet in MLS…if you’re a glass-half-full kinda person.
