Altidore, Duka, Krupnik and transfer talk

All sorts of transfer tidbits for ya.

According to Goal.com’s Greek edition, U.S. National Team striker Jozy Altidore is going on loan to Greek Super League champs Olympiakos. The 19-year-old New Jersey native had struggled for playing time since his $10 million move from Red Bull to Villarreal, and he has stated he needs to get on the field.

His great performance in the Confederations Cup last month in South Africa drew a lot of attention. Now reports are saying that has landed him in Olympiakos, who’ve won the last five Green titles and have Brazilian Diogo and Brit Matt Derbyshire.

As far as the Red Bulls go, I’m told they want to sign Leo Krupnik (again) and that the deal has moved to the MLS stage. Folks, by the time anything gets to the league it’s essentially a done deal. So brace yourselves for Krupnik being one of this transfer window’s additions, along with Ernst Obster and likely one more foreign acquisition. At least.

But as Juan Carlos Osorio has repeatedly said, and SBI reiterated, MLS rules were standing in the way of signing Dilly Duka. In this case, he wasn’t a full-fledged academy member by the time he enrolled at Rutgers two years ago, which is why guys like Matt Kassel and Walter Hines are good to go but the former Rutgers standout isn’t.

So what do you think of the report on Altidore? Do you buy him going to Greece or are you a doubter? Happy to see Krupnik return for a second Metro stint after his 2002 cameo? Think he’s improved? Vexed at the Duka news? Share your thoughts….
