McAllister named EL’s Pitcher of the Week

It’s been a terrific year for Yankee prospect Zach McAllister so far with Double-A Trenton, and he’s been honored with the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Week award. The 6-foot-6 right-hander went 2-0 in his two starts last week for Trenton. He went seven shutout innings against New Britain, giving up four hits, striking out five and walking two. He was arguably better in his other start, which came Sunday against Altoona. He allowed one run on five hits in 6.2 innings, striking out 10 and walking three.

In nine starts for Trenton this season, McAllister is 4-2 with a 1.84 ERA. He’s struck out 42 and walked 18 in 53.2 innings. He entered the season as the No. 6 overall prospect in the Yankees system, according to Baseball America, and it’s third-ranked pitcher, behind Andrew Brackman (No. 3) and Dellin Betances (No. 5).
