There is nothing seriously wrong with the left knee of Brandon Jacobs but it also is possible that he will not be ready to play Sunday against the Cardinals in Arizona.
The MRI take of Jacobs’ knee revealed no structural damage but there is swelling and there is an injury. Jacobs following the 30-10 victory over the Ravens did not sound concerned about his knee – he was hit in the first quarter, played through the second quarter and then took a seat early in the third quarter – but yesterday spoke with several media outlets and did not dismiss missing time.
“I could line up and go play on Sunday if our team has a serious need of a running back,” Jacobs said on ESPN First Take. “But as everyone knows, they’re not. We have a stable of horses lined up and ready to go. So I could play if I wanted to and I needed to but I don’t know if they’ll let me.”
Knee concerns are nothing new for Jacobs. He suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in last season’s opener against the Cowboys and missed the next three games. Jacobs will almost definitely miss practice tomorrow and will be day-to-day for the rest of the week.
Speaking on SIRIUS NFL Radio, Jacobs said “I feel pretty good. I feel way better than I felt Sunday after the game. I did the same thing I did against Dallas last year but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was then. I’ll be fine. It’s my call and we’ll be alright.”
