The final two thugs from the burglary crew that murdered hero NYPD Det. Peter Figoski were each sentenced to 25 years to life today.
Ringleader Nelson Morales, 28, and career criminal Kevin Santos, 32, both got the maximum for their roles in the botched East New York burglary that led to gunman Lamont Pride fatally shooting father-of-four Figoski in December 2011.
“The clock can never be turned back and now we are here asking for justice for Peter,” said the slain cop’s mom, Mary Ann Figoski.
“Society must be protected from predators like them.”
Morales gave a self-serving apology before he was sentenced.
“My heart goes out to the officer’s mom,” said Morales, who insultingly compared his kin to the Figoski family. “I got shot before, I almost lost my life and my family had to visit me in the hospital, so I know exactly what you guys are going through.”
Santos also spoke.
“Although I was found guilty I still claim my innocence in knowing the intentions of my co-defendant,’ he whined.
Police union head Pat Lynch vowed to fight to make sure neither Morales nor Santos would ever get parole.
“They planted the demon seed that set in motion the death of a great hero,” Lynch said.
Shooter Lamont Pride was convicted and sentenced to 45 years to life. Thug-turned-rat Ariel Tejada snitched on his friends in exchange for a reduced sentence. Accused getaway driver Michael Velez was acquitted.
