Once again, ace prognosticator Steve Mason of Fantasy Moguls points to tracking to predict “The Dark Knight” will be pushed from its perch this weekend, and he might actually be right this time. Last weekend, he said “Pineapple Express” would do the trick, but the stoner comedy burned off enough demand by opening strongly on Wednesday that the Caped Crusader took his fourth straight weekend. To make it five, he will have to get past the one-two punch of “Tropic Thunder” which opened today (here’s a link to my 3 star review) and the animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” opening tomorrow. Mase predicts “Thunder” will do a total of $20 million today and tomorrow and an additional $25 million for Friday to Monday. He pegs “Star Wars” at $21.5M, TDK at $16.6, “Pineapple Express” at 12.5M and the Kiefer Sutherland horror movie “Mirrors” — which is so good Fox isn’t screening it for critics — at $11.8M.
