NEWTON, NJ — Some Sussex County Democratic leaders want to make it clear that Newark Mayor Cory Booker does not yet have their endorsement — despite the slogan boasted on his primary ballot.
Booker’s campaign chose “Sussex County Democrats 2013” as the candidate’s slogan for the Aug. 13 US Senate primary in the North Jersey county.
But Michael Busche, the county Democratic committee chair, told The Star-Ledger the party leadership doesn’t even plan to pick a favorite until after the results of a straw poll come out this month.
Booker, three fellow Democrats and two Republicans are in the race to fill the last 15 months of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg’s term.
