The Yankees announced today that they’ve signed backup catcher Jose Molina to a two-year contract. To make room on the 40-man roster for Molina, the Bombers designated first baseman Andy Phillips for assignment.

Molina, 32, hit .318 with one home run and 19 RBI. He hit safely in 12 of his 16 starts, and also had five multi-hit games.

Phillips, 30, batted .292 with two homers and 25 RBI in 61 games with the Yankees in 2007. Over four seasons in the Bronx, Phillips hit .253 with 11 home runs and 60 RBI.
