Early Christmas for fantasy owners

If you’re shopping the waiver wire for great Christmas deals for your fantasy team, good luck. It’s like browsing through the clearance section of the local department store. That doesn’t mean you can’t find a good present, but you can get robbed just as quickly.

Grab your fantasy coupons and let’s look at the holiday waiver wire sales. Some shoppers may have returned valuable commodities, so check your wire for some Armani talent on the waiver rack. A few leagues may have names such as Travis Henry, Selvin Young or Ryan Grant available. Mind you, each comes with flaws.

Henry could be suspended. But until he is, now that he’s healthy again, he will be the Broncos starting running back and should put up numbers you’re otherwise not likely to find this late in the season. Young is banged up, but once healthy, should assume the Broncos backfield duties, if Henry is suspended.

Grant is the Packers main back now, thanks to a string of injuries and poor performance of other Packers backs. If he is out there, snag him now, despite the Pack’s limited rushing attack.

Derrick Ward reportedly is getting back to good health. He could be a solid addition, especially if Brandon Jacobs misses significant time. When both were healthy, they were being used effectively as a combo.

Andre Hall looked good last week but is unlikely to keep his grip on the starting spot in Denver. The Bears’ Adrian Petersonnot the Vikings’ Adrian Peterson – takes over with Cedric Benson out of the lineup. But the Bears weren’t running with much success to begin with.

Same goes for Chiefs fill-in Kolby Smith. No one’s sure when Larry Johnson will return, but until then it looks like Smith’s job. But LJ struggled for much of the season, and one big game against a suspect Raiders defense does not make us believers in Smith for the long term.

Last week’s Survivor pick: Dallas over Jets. This week’s pick: Tennessee over Houston. Record: 11-1.
