A-Rod A-Goner

Wrote this on March 14th in Where’s Kernan.

“Barring a World Series title, Alex Rodriguez is history in New York. And even if A-Rod and the Yankees win the World Series, I would not be shocked to see him leave.”

We all know who won the World Series — and it sure wasn’t the Yankees. One player does not make a team and now the Yankees have enough money to throw at pitching and may even take Mike Lowell away from the Red Sox, but these Yankees are heading into dangerous times.

Take A-Rod’s offense and presence away from this lineup and you know what you have?

Basically, you have the Angels.

A-Rod hit 54 home runs, drove in 156 RBI and scored 143 runs. I’m going to keep this simple and just take away those numbers from the Yankee totals. That would leave the Yankees with 825 runs, 147 home runs and 773 RBI.

The Angels hit 123 home runs, scored 822 runs and managed 776 RBI.

That was good enough to win the AL West but the Angels were helpless against the Red Sox in the division series – and by the way – this may have been the worst post-season in baseball history for lack of excitement and energy.

Even the Red Sox seemed bored.

A-Rod is gone, if the Yankees are to be believed, all the A-Rod bashers can now have a field day, but the cold reality is the Yankees just lost the best player in the game and that hurts.
