Dick Costolo is a man the NCAA considers to be a booster to the University of Michigan. He is also the CEO of Twitter, and a recruit named George Campbell is a prospective Michigan wide receiver.
These three realities would collide in ironic fashion.
Here’s how it went:
Heyyyyyy @GeorgeCampbell0, welcome to the family. pic.twitter.com/U87BUMnXu1
— Wilton Speight (@WiltonSpeight) July 27, 2013
Costolo responded with a since-deleted tweet celebrating the announcement.
@WiltonSpeight @GeorgeCampbell0 amazing! #goblue

And unfortunately for American society, that was against some kind of rule somewhere. In this case, it was against the NCAA’s rule on when boosters can contact prospects. Costolo had jumped the gun.
