Two violent, random attacks in Midtown

A deranged Midwestern man attacked two unsuspecting victims in Midtown today, police said.

Tamarrae Hopikins, 18, walked up to a 41-year-old Connecticut man and, without saying a word punched him in the head on West 45th Street, near Sixth Avenue, at 12:10 p.m., police said.

He then picked up a metal mesh garbage can on the street and whacked a 21-year-old New Jersey man, sources added.

“We heard a loud bang. We looked up. The garbage can was laying on the sidewalk. The guy’s head was bleeding. The guy was running toward downtown,” said witness, Marilia Joyner.

The victim who was punched refused medical attention and the victim who was hit over the head was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, the FDNY said.

Hopkins was charged with two counts of assault, police said.
