Apple’s Beats deal has set off a music-streaming race.
Twitter has been in talks to buy SoundCloud, a Berlin-based website for sharing music and other audio files, the Financial Times reported on Thursday.
The micro-blogging service, which has been trying to make headway in the space for months, has also considered buying music-streaming service Spotify and Internet radio player Pandora, the UK paper reported.
SoundCloud declined to comment on the deal while Twitter did not respond to an email seeking comment.
The Post exclusively reported Wednesday that Google is also in the market for a music streaming service, prompting speculation that it might snap up Spotify.
Other streaming candidates include Rdio and Rhapsody.
The heightened interest in music streaming follows Apple’s $3 billion deal for Beats, the high-end headphone and music-streaming firm founded by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre.
Streaming music services are exploding while the market for digital music downloads — dominated by iTunes — is in decline.
