Nobel committee blunders Peace Prize pick

WASHINGTON — In the great geo-political movements of modern history, today will forever be remembered as the moment when Obama’s presidency officially jumped the shark.

Peddling so much Hope and Change on his road to the White House, Americans soon discovered that while Obama is not an unlikeable guy, he’s also not quite the Messiah so many have made him out to be.

And so all across America this morning, people woke up and turned on their little radios in their bathrooms or the televisions in their kitchens.

In the usual pre-coffee befuddlement of the morning, they heard words. Obama. Extraordinary efforts. Nobel. Peace. Prize.

In perfect unison, Obama’s foes and supporters alike looked at one another in complete puzzlement and asked, “For what?”

Now, word comes that even in the White House, there was surprised embarrassment.

For his part, Obama said he is “deeply humbled” and acknowledged he doesn’t deserve it.

The committee clearly has cast itself into the dustbin of irrelevancy by making this move. People will joke about this for years.

The only plausible explanation for this bizarre decision by the esteemed committee is that it was some sort of consolation prize for losing the Olympics.

After all, it’s not as if Obama has brought peace to the Middle East. Or, because he has persuaded Iran away from its nuclear ambitions or ended the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Maybe it’s because Obama has floated the idea that he wants to recognize the Taliban as a political entity in Afghanistan.

No, the real answer is that, quite simply, the Nobel Prize committee just felt sorry for the guy.

But the real disservice here is not the further crumbling of the committee’s reputation but to Obama himself.

He must now carry on in the full glare of the world’s stage perpetuating a fraud hatched some foreign cabal enthralled in delusional fantasy.
