Couple sentenced for dropping rocks on interstate

TACOMA, Wash. — A young couple charged with dropping rocks onto more than a dozen passing cars on Interstate 5 entered guilty pleas Tuesday and were sentenced to four years in prison.

Eighteen-year-old Amanda L. Madison and 24-year-old Joshua N. Sizemore pleaded guilty to three counts each of assault and malicious mischief charges in Pierce County Superior Court.

In return, prosecutors dropped other charges.

Investigators said the pair told them they were on a railroad trestle May 25 tossing rocks and playing a game in which players take off clothes depending on which headlights are out on passing cars.

A total of 14 cars were hit, including the cruiser of a top commander at the State Patrol.

The defendants entered Alford pleas, meaning they didn’t admit guilt but realized they would likely be convicted if the case went to trial.

One man was injured when a rock crashed through a vehicle’s window and bruised his arm.

Both apologized in court and said they didn’t intend to hurt anyone.
