A hearty cheer for the 10 New Yorkers honored at The Post’s eighth annual Liberty Medal Awards last night.
The medals pay tribute to the everyday heroism that so many New Yorkers have shown since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Post readers nominate friends, neighbors and colleagues who’ve displayed outstanding character in eight separate categories.
And last night’s winners have certainly left their mark on the city in profound ways (though none likely ever expected any recognition for it).
Winners like principal Israel Soto, who turned around a failing East Harlem school, earning the Educator award.
Or Moses Nelson, who saved a 7-year-old Bronx boy in a heroic rescue in an elevator shaft; he and Firefighter Michael Czech, who saved three unconscious people in a Queens blaze, won the New York’s Bravest award.
Congratulations also to Rev. Melony Samuels (Leadership), Rachel Guzy (Young Heart), Kim Royster and Susan Porcello (New York’s Finest), Jennifer Mazzotta-Perretti (Courage), Wellington Chen (Freedom) and Msgr. William O’Brien (Lifetime Achievement).
They truly represent the best of the city. And the city will always be grateful.
