A Florida woman took an argument over the hit TV show “American Idol” a little too far when she brutally stabbed and scalded her boyfriend.
Police in St. Petersburg arrested Cynthia Bettis-Ware, 52, on a charge of first-degree attempted murder after she stabbed Kevin Johnson, 47, seven times before scalding him with a cup of hot chocolate.
The fight took place at a motel, which the couple listed as their address, police spokeswoman Jennifer Dawkins told The St. Petersburg Times.
Cops said the couple was watching “American Idol” on Tuesday night when they began arguing over something that happened on the show.
That’s when Johnson changed the channel to stop the argument, Dawkins said, before going to bed.
Johnson woke up a short time later and saw Bettis-Ware wielding a 10-inch butcher knife, police said.
Cops said she stabbed him five times in the back and twice in the chest, before severely burning Johnson with a mug of hot cocoa.
A bloodied Johnson grabbed the knife from her and staggered outside to the motel parking lot to get help, Dawkins said.
But police said Bettis-Ware chased after him with another knife, before a crowd of people gathered in the lot called 911.
