Fruit Roll-Ups a danger: lawsuit

General Mills is secretly rolling up dangerous trans fat in fruity snacks it markets to children, according to a $5 million-plus suit filed today.

The Manhattan federal court filing says the food giant has been hiding the dangers of its Fruit Roll-Ups, Fruit by the Foot and Fruit Gushers by portraying them as “nutritious” and “healthy to consume.”

Those “healthful claims are misleading since the products fail to disclose they contain a highly unhealthy, non-nutritious ingredient known as partially hydrogenated oil,” the class-action suit says.

Manhattan resident Payton McClure — who calls herself a “lifelong consumer” of General Mills foodstuffs — wants big money damages for false advertising, breach of warranty and unjust enrichment.

A company spokeswoman declined to comment, saying: “To our knowledge, this suit has not even been served.”
