Village People man hopes to cop judge job on American idol: report

The man who played the original cop in the Village People says TV executives are considering him for a place on the judging panel of “American Idol,” the showbiz website TMZ reported Wednesday.

Victor Willis said he would be the ideal choice to replace Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell because he was judge for the selection of the Village People talent in 1977.

TMZ says Willis claims to have met Fox TV executives and is being considered as a “dark horse candidate.”

Such a move by American Idol bosses would send shock waves through the showbiz world since it is expected that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will take their seats on the panel once contract agreements have been thrashed out.

Willis is reported to have said: “I reminded the American Idol representative that I was a judge for the selection of talent for the most iconic group of characters of all time.

“The show’s response was that they’re very much aware of this and I’m considered a serious dark horse candidate.”
