Mike to DC: Keep tax cuts

Mayor Bloomberg came down yesterday on the side of extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, saying a pullback now poses too big a risk in this shaky economy.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the mayor was asked whether he agreed with the Obama administration that economic growth wouldn’t be affected if the Bush-era tax cuts are allowed to lapse.

“I don’t think you want to run the risk that they are wrong,” said the mayor. “I would say let’s go on with the tax cuts for another couple of years. But you couple it with long-term solutions.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat who is a friend of the mayor, pointed out that President Bill Clinton produced 23.5 million jobs after raising taxes on the top 2 percent in 1993.
