MSG Network was mum yesterday regarding announcer Spero Dedes’ Fourth of July weekend DWI arrest in the Hamptons, raising questions whether the incident will affect the Fordham product’s negotiations with the Knicks.
One person familiar with the situation said Dedes had yet to sign contracts that would make him the radio voice of the Knicks, replacing Mike Crispino.
As reported in yesterday’s Post, the Knicks had not yet formally announced Dedes’ hire, and a network spokesman declined comment.
Dedes, who left the Lakers’ booth to come home for his dream job, was also going to fill in for Mike Breen on the TV side — a slot filled the last two seasons by Kenny Albert.
Dedes, 32, was stopped for speeding by Southhampton police at 4:12 a.m. Sunday morning, was arrested for drunk driving and released on $500 bail, according to an arrest report . A hearing was staged yesterday morning. Dedes’ Southhampton attorney Colin Astarita said Tuesday “inconsistencies” existed in the report. The Lakers have since replaced Dedes with John Ireland.
