LONDON — Here’s a first look at actress Meryl Streep playing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming film, “The Iron Lady.”
The movie trailer, released today, is a short clip meant to draw buzz to the flick, which is slated to be released in theaters Jan. 6.
The clip was shown this morning on the BBC.
The movie chronicles Thatcher’s rise to power in the 1970s en route to become the first –and so far — only female prime minister in British history.
The film will also recall the days leading up to the 1982 Falklands War — a conflict in which Britain repelled an Argentine invasion of the remote, disputed territory in the south Atlantic Ocean.
Success in the war helped improve Thatcher’s popularity ratings after the early 1980s recession and contributed to her Conservative party’s 1983 election victory.
