BAY SHORE, N.Y. — Police on Long Island say a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and then turned the gun on himself during a dispute over visitation rights.
They say a 12-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl and a 3-month-old girl were in the Bay Shore apartment at the time but were not injured.
Police say the man entered the apartment at 1 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun. Newsday reports that the man got into a heated dispute with the woman over visitation rights involving the infant. Police say he was the child’s father.
Police say the woman’s 31-year-old sister jumped from a window during the shooting, breaking her leg.
It was not immediately clear if the two older children belonged to the victim or her sister.
Police didn’t immediately release the victims’ names.
