The Islanders traded a sixth-round pick to the Coyotes yesterday in exchange for former Rangers goalie Al Montoya. They did so after it was announced that rookie goalie Kevin Poulin will miss the rest of the season with a dislocated knee cap he sustained during pregame warmups on Tuesday.
Montoya was playing for the Coyotes’ AHL affiliate in San Antonio, where he was 11-8-0 in 21 games.
Rick DiPietro is out for up to six weeks after getting his face busted up last week in a fight with Penguins goalie Brent Johnson.
The Isles, who visit Montreal tonight, also said center Jeremy Colliton will be out for two weeks because of a rib injury.
