10 busted in car theft ring investigation

Ten people from Brooklyn and Queens were arrested Wednesday after a 16-month investigation in an auto theft ring where they have allegedly stolen 17 cars -including an Audi Q7, a BMW and a Subaru- and reselling them on Craigslist as well as to friends and family.

“When I first took office, there were some 52,000 cars stolen in Queens County. Last year we were at just a little more than 3,400 cars stolen – a decrease of more than 90 percent,” said DA Richard Brown.

The alleged ring leader, Clayton Delgado’s searched his home where they found 100 vehicle ID number plates and federal stickers as well as a printer used for making counterfeit $100 bills.

The defendants -ages range from 18 to 34- were arraigned by Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter and were either remanded or bail/bond amounts were set.

They face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
