Night: simply enchanting

The vintage ’70s beat goes on for fall. At Jill Stuart, it’s her favorite era. This season, she as inspired by the Black Forest, otherwise known as the Enchanted Forest. “There’s a Berlin photographer named Heidi Specker who took pictures of the Black Forest and they combine nature with architecture, and that inspired this collection,” she tells The Post.

Continuing her polished minimalist direction from spring, Stuart started off with owl and fox prints reminiscent of Inuit art on simple dresses and tunics and moved on to swingy knife-pleated shirt dresses in bold color blocks of navy, orange, burgundy and teal. Other standouts included clever fur pelt prints on silk, sheared fur vests, chunky knits and Lurex-flecked tweed skirts and coats. Ali McGraw hair and makeup completed the look. Alexa Ray Joel says it was girly in a way she loved and reminded her of “the vintage blouses I have in my closet.”

Girly was also the word at Prabal Gurung. The young designer, who quickly garnered a following of celebrities and critical success, has joined the girly Goth school of Givenchy, L’Wren Scott and Olivier Theyskens with his fall collection. The romantic red prom dress cinched with a piece of black leather that opened the show was the first rock- chick cue, then he let it roll on to black lace and chiffon, tailcoats over bootcut pants and shredded red and pink tea-length dresses. It was like an emo version of Wuthering Heights and the downtown girls will all be swooning.
