Bronx mom sues foster parent and agency after death of her son

Maurice Cosme
A 2-year-old boy was beaten, starved and tied to a bed before dying while in the care of a convicted criminal who was allowed to be his foster parent, the boy’s Bronx mother claims in a suit.

The brutal April death of Maurice Cosme is still under investigation and no arrests have been made, authorities say. But biological mother Ashley Cosme says she knows who to blame.

Cosme claims Saint Dominic’s Home, a Rockland County foster-care agency, placed her son in the Yonkers home of Cynthia Roman without doing a background check on Roman, according to Bronx Supreme Court papers.

Roman has served two stints in state prison.

Cosme’s lawyer, Michael Hecht, declined to say why the boy was in foster care. Saint Dominic’s declined to comment. Roman did not return a call for comment.
