Freight train derails in Queens, disrupting LIRR service

A freight train derailed in Queens on Wednesday afternoon, disrupting LIRR service just before rush hour, authorities said.

Three cars of a westbound New York & Atlantic Railway train went off the tracks just east of the Jamaica station shortly before 3 p.m., an LIRR spokesman said.

No one was hurt, and it was not yet clear why the train derailed.

The MTA said there will be service out of Penn Station, but riders should expect delays and cancellations.
