Femininity front and center at Tadashi Shoji

The Who: Alyssa Milano, Jessica White and Amber Riley sat near June Ambrose and J. Alexander in the front row.

The What: We don’t think Shoji left any tulle for the other designers to work with, and quite frankly, we don’t care. The red carpet favorite was inspired by the idea of “Sweet Liberation,” which he described in the run of show as the intersection between confidence and femininity. This translated into embroidered tulle over lace – on floor-length gowns and shorter sheaths – and embellishments like sequins, organza ribbon and feather fringe. Two dresses could have done without their peplums, but the use of an antique scalloped pattern – in textured tulle, of course – made up for them.

The Highlight: It’s a tie between the grid corded tulle, which was prevalent, and the metal chandelier detail saved for the final look.

The Takeaway: We can’t imagine the celebrity set waiting until spring to slip these looks on.
