Two bumbling burglars tried to break into a Sheepshead Bay AT&T store and failed, cops said Tuesday.

The men attempted to pry open a gate at the store at Coney Island Avenue and Avenue X at around 2 a.m. Monday, but they could not get the metal door open, according to police.


A school safety agent and his gal pal went from love birds to jail birds after the knives came out during a fight between the two in East Flatbush, law-enforcement sources said.

Off-duty NYPD employee Troy Scott and his girlfriend pulled the weapons on each other during an argument over a phone just after midnight on Monday, the sources said.

Scott, 25, allegedly pushed Sherborn Smith, 30, onto a couch and put a knife to her face, while Smith allegedly cut Scott’s shirt with a blade.

Both were charged with harassment, menacing, attempted assault and weapon possession, according to a Criminal Court complaint.

Manhattan

A distraught Chinese immigrant preferred jail over vagrancy, authorities said Tuesday.

Quing Jiang, 31, visited the Chinese Consulate on 12th Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, begging for an airline ticket home, a Criminal Court complaint states.

When officials there told the destitute man that they do not provide tickets, Jiang defied repeated orders to leave, according to the court records.

“Then I’d rather go to jail!” he allegedly said.

Jiang received a desk-appearance ticket for trespassing and was released on his own recognizance.


A bank robber made off with $2,400 in a heist in Tribeca.

The thief walked up to the counter at the Capital One Bank at West Broadway and Chambers Street at around 9:25 a.m. July 8, passed a demand note to a 25-year-old teller and threatened violence, police sources said Tuesday.

The worker turned over about $2,400 in $50 bills and the thief fled, the sources added.


An aggressive beggar threw a young woman to the ground in the outdoor cafe area of a Tribeca restaurant and tried to rob her after she refused to share her cup of coffee, sources said Tuesday.

The bizarre incident unfolded at around 7 a.m. Monday, when a man in his 40s, and with long, black braids approached the 19-year-old woman in a rear patio area of the Crave Restaurant on Canal Street, the sources said.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound goon asked, “Can I have a sip of coffee?”

When the woman refused, the thug tried to pull her backpack off of her, the sources added.

The customer put up a fight and scared off the violent moocher, but not before he threw her to the ground, the sources said.

The victim hit her head on the floor, but suffered only minor injuries, according to the sources.


A nightclub is out more than $10,000 after a man who promised to fix its DJ equipment disappeared, sources said on Tuesday.

In January, the Ninth Avenue club, called Hell’s Kitchen, turned over its speakers, mixers and lights for repairs to a bald man who workers believe is from Africa, the sources said.

He vanished with $10,350 worth of gear and has not returned calls, the sources said.


A man stole a bag worth more than $1,000 from a Soho clothing store.

The thief walked into Diesel on Greene Street at around 1:25 p.m. Monday and asked, “Where is the cologne?”

He then snatched the $1,095 Black Gold handbag and left, the sources said.

The man is 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds, with close cropped black hair.

The Bronx

Police are looking for three men who opened fire in a playground in Morrisania.

The assailants walked up to a 21-year-old man who was sitting in the park at Home Street and Union Avenue at around 10:15 p.m. July 7 and shot him in the leg, according to cops.

The gunman and his pals fled, cops said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

The third man involved in the incident was not captured by video surveillance, they said.
