Damon (Ian Somerhalder) comes up with a dangerous plan that relies on split-second timing from Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig). Caroline (Candice Accola) has a surprisingly emotional reaction to an off-hand remark regarding Stefan (Paul Wesley). Elena (Nina Dobrev) takes matters into her own hands and demands that Liv (Penelope Mitchell) and Luke (Chris Brochu) help her, but Liv refuses to cooperate. Finally, Damon’s plan causes a massive explosion in Mystic Falls, and everyone is caught up in the confusion, leaving a trail of heroism, sacrifice, relief and despair.

Chicago Fire (Tuesday, 10 p.m., NBC)

A fire at a boarding school leaves Lt. Severide (Taylor Kinney) shaken and wondering if he could have done more to save lives. Meanwhile, with the firehouse in full support of Dawson (Monica Raymund) as she retakes the fireman’s exam, Lt. Casey (Jesse Spencer) attempts some political maneuverings on her behalf. Elsewhere, Mills (Charlie Barnett) looks for answers about his father’s mysterious past, and Chief Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) grand plans take a detour.

The Blacklist (Monday, 10 p.m., NBC)

With the crashing of the prisoner transport plane, the city is on lockdown. Meanwhile, Liz (Megan Boone) gets Red (James Spader) out of custody — he can help them find the suspects. The FBI tracks down Berlin, a prisoner on the plane who is involved.

Avery (Jonathan Jackson) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) rock out at a benefit for Deacon’s (Charles Esten) charity. Avery plans to serenade Juliette. And Scarlett (Clare Bowen) makes a decision about her future in Music City.

Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) takes on Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) with a little help from friends. Thea (Willa Holland) turns to Roy (Colton Haynes) in her time of need.
