‘New York Nets’: Stern, Bloomberg make All-Star goofs

Both David Stern and Mayor Bloomberg had blooper moments during Wednesday afternoon’s press conference to announce the Knicks and Nets would co-host All-Star Weekend in 2015.

Stern’s moment came in his opening remarks, when he was a little too broad in his description of where the Nets play.

“I am pleased to announce that the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend will be held in New York City, co-hosted by the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden and the New York Nets at Barclays Center,” Stern said.

He later apologized for his mistake: “I called the Nets the New York Nets, and I know they play in Brooklyn, USA. I think it’s New York City, and I think the world is coming to understand that Brooklyn is a very distinct and enjoyable part of New York City.”

Bloomberg then walked into his own slip-up when he tried to pick up Stern.

“If we were to have a World Series between the Yankees and the Mets, or a Super Bowl between the Jets and the Giants or an NBA championship between these two great teams … it would be the best thing that ever happened to those leagues.”

Only the Knicks and Nets could not face each other for an NBA championship, as they both play in the Eastern Conference.
