Accused ‘Brooklyn Ripper’ shaved head to elude cops

Oh, he’s crazy, all right. Crazy like a fox.

Accused Brooklyn butcher Daniel St. Hubert, who is charged with stabbing two children in an elevator, was sane enough to try to elude authorities by shaving his head and managing to hide for several days while on the lam, sources said.

“Obviously he knows what he’s doing,’’ a source said of St. Hubert, who is accused of fatally stabbing 6-year-old P.J. Avitto and nearly killing 7-year-old Mikayla Capers in the East New York horror.

The source noted that under police questioning, St. Hubert talked about the “devil’’ — a classic setup for a psych defense.

“He’s competent to stand trial, but I’m afraid they’re going to send him away forever to a mental institution where his life will be a lot easier,” the source said.

St. Hubert, 27, has been charged with knifing the kids just days after being paroled from prison for trying to kill his own mother.

P.J.’s grieving dad, Nicholas Avitto, said Sunday — Father’s Day and the day his son was born six years ago — that he’s not snowed by St. Hubert’s “crazy” act.

“The guy, he knew what he was doing,” the devastated dad said. “He had hair on his head when he stabbed the kids. He ran out the building and dropped his knife when he fell and cut his hair off and facial hair. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

“I know for a fact, wherever he ends up, he’s not going to last,’’ the dad added.

“All people enjoy their kids. Nobody hurts kids. They’re innocent. Behind the penal system, there are inmates who have kids, nephews, cousins, babies. They don’t tolerate that.

“Same thing at the mental institution. They have people there playing insane, but they’re sane, and they don’t tolerate child killers either.”

Cops tracked down St. Hubert in Queens by pinging his cellphone from a number provided by a tipster, sources said.
