Skateboarder dead after slipping under school bus

A skateboarder was killed Wednesday after she slipped underneath a school bus in The Bronx, police and witnesses said.

Genielle Laboriel, 21, was wearing headphones and cruising on her longboard when she was hit on Melrose Avenue near East 160th Street, where neighborhood residents said they saw her nearly every morning.

The bus was making a right onto East 160th Street around 7:15 a.m., and the woman rolled right into its path, a witness said.

“She went right underneath him,” said Juanita Hernandez, 42. “It wasn’t the bus driver’s fault.”

The victim was rushed in critical condition to Lincoln Hospital, where she died.

Her grieving mom, Auilda, described her youngest child as “free-spirited.”

“Everybody wants to see their baby grow up, get married and have a life,” she said. “Her longboard, that was her baby.”
