Why your next iPhone may need a case

Apple’s obsession with elegant design may peak with an all-glass iPhone.

The tech giant’s latest patent describes how to enclose a phone, tablet or even a TV set in a single slab of glass, according to Apple Insider.

Because an all-glass housing would be heavy and breakable, Apple details a new method of glass-on-glass construction that would be lighter and more durable.

The patent describes a process for fusing glass structures together to form a seamless shape with curves, rounded edges and even holes for physical buttons.

It also explains that the glass could be transparent to expose the inner workings of the device or tinted to hide them.

While it sounds beautiful, an all-glass enclosure would still be a bear to fix, so you better get a case for that phone.

Indeed, Apple suggests that it would leave a non-glass part of the housing to allow the circuitry and inner workings to be removed.
