Jill Abramson pounds the pavement with her dog

Jill Abramson’s dog may be the only thing she takes crap from.

The axed New York Times editor, known for her maverick ways, took her peppy golden retriever out for a morning stroll Friday.

Just before 8 a.m., Abramson left her Tribeca home looking a bit frumpy in a brown jacket, black cropped pants and pink and gray Nike running sneakers. Her dog Scout seemed happy to have her owner home, gazing at her affectionately on their quick jaunt down the street.

Abramson penned a memoir about her beloved Scout — aptly named after the audacious narrator in “To Kill A Mockingbird” — in 2011 called “The Puppy Diaries: Raising a Dog Named Scout.” She writes about her first year with the pup, whom she trained to do tricks, listen to her commands and walk properly on a leash.

If that had worked at the Times, she might not have had time to take Scout out this morning.
